When we generate ISO file in Acronis Media Builder which is build in Acronis Disc Director 12.5 in Windows 10 x64 Pro 1909 then Acronis Media Builder crashed. I found in Windows 10 event log information about reason. Faulting application name: MediaBuilder.exe, version: 12.5.0.163, time stamp: 0x5bebbbe1. The program provides a host of options for handing disks and volumes. It's able to create and work with basic, dynamic, spanned, striped and mirrored volumes; there are all kinds of conversion options (convert between basic and dynamic disks, primary and logical volumes, GPT and MBR disks, more); and of course it can resize, move, copy, split or merge volumes without losing any data.

Acronis disk director 12.5 review

There are tools to cope with most situations. Disk Director can clone your disk to a replacement drive; split it into two, ready for installing another operating system on the second volume; recover a lost or damaged partition, and more.

Perhaps most usefully, Disk Director can run from a bootable CD, DVD or USB key, enabling you to work on systems even if Windows won't boot.

That's a lot of power, but fortunately you don't have to be an expert in drive management to use the program. Just click a drive or partition and a left-hand sidebar displays the various actions you can use. Many of these are very straightforward ('Format', 'Change letter', 'Defragment', 'Check', 'Browse files'), and the more complex actions ('Resize', 'Move', 'Copy', 'Split', 'Merge') have well-designed wizards to walk you through every step.

Disk Director 12.5 brings enhanced compatibility:

- The same Acronis Disk Director 12.5 product now supports the server and non-server operating systems
- Support for Windows Server 2016.
- Support for native 4K disks (disks that report a 4 KB logical sector size). Previously, only 512-byte emulation disks (512e) were supported.
- The maximum size of a volume that Acronis Disk Director can manage in the Demo (trial) mode is increased from 100 MB to 10 GB.
- Compatibility with Acronis True Image 2019. Both products can operate on the same machine and on the same Linux-based bootable media. Use the media builder provided with Acronis Disk Director to create this media.
- Updated Linux kernel in bootable media to support modern hardware.

Please note, this demo version of Acronis Disk Director will only carry out volume operations whose initial and resulting size is a maximum of 100MB.

On the next step you need to select whether to create Linux-based media or WinPE-based media. Further steps depend on which option you choose:

Linux-based media: click to expand instructions
  1. Select the way volumes and network resources will be handled—called the media style:
    • A media with Linux-style volume handling displays the volumes as, for example, hda1 and sdb2.
    • A media with Windows-style volume handling displays the volumes as, for example, C: and D:.
  2. [optional] On this step you can specify Linux kernel parameters, e.g. for better compatibility with certain hardware. For a list of available parameters, see Linux Kernel parameters.
  3. Select the bootable components to be placed on the media:
  4. Select the type of media to create. You can:
    • create CD, DVD or other bootable media such as removable USB flash drive if the hardware BIOS allows for boot from such media
    • build an ISO image of a bootable disc to burn it later on to a blank disc
  5. [optional] For better compatibility with your hardware, you can select mass storage device drivers to be added to the media
  6. Check all details and click Proceed to create bootable media
WinPE-based media: click to expand instructions
  1. Select bootable media type: Windows PE
  2. If you do not have Windows AIK installed on the machine, you will be offered to download and install it. If you have Windows AIK already installed, the product will automatically detect it.
  3. Select Create WinPE automatically:
  4. WinPE preparation will start:
  5. [optional] For better compatibility with your hardware, you can select mass storage device drivers to be added to the media. Generally, you need the add drivers option only if you have compatibility issues with the machine's hardware and the WinPE media.
  6. Select the type of media to create.

You will generally need to select an the ISO image option.

The WIM image can be used if you plan to create a custom WinPE image. See Microsoft TechNet Article: Windows PE Customization.

  7. After selecting where to save the image file, review the details and click Proceed:
  8. Once the WinPE media image is created, burn it to a disc. See Burning an ISO Image;
